Jubilee Elect Chris

Ulverston Masonic Hall was the setting for the business meeting of Jubilee Mark Lodge No 375. WM Phil Burrow was pleased to declare Chris Gray as master elect for the ensuing year.

The lodge is fortunate to have such a well known and respected mason ready to take over the helm from Phil. Chris can anticipate a busy and fruitful year as there are a trio of candidates in the pipeline for Jubilee Mark Lodge.

Also re-elected, unopposed, was long standing treasurer Peter Quirk who, after thanking the members for there continued support promptly proposed that the fees be increased!

Peter was then again called into action and delivered a short presentation on Jim Bowie after whom the famous knife is named. Bowie was a mason and died at the Battle of the Alamo along with other famous masons including David Crockett. Somewhat ironically General Santa Anna who led the Mexican forces was also a mason.

Peter is the proud owner of a Bowie knife which is of some great age, about which he disclosed its history and how he came to possess it.

It proved an interesting talk to supplement the business meeting.
